BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION: This position conducts scientific work as part of the bedrock geology and/or surficial geology mapping programs at the Maine Geological Survey. The position designs and carries out geologic investigations that increase the collective knowledge of bedrock and surficial geology and related resources and hazards in Maine. The position communicates information about Maine geology to peers, stakeholders, and the public. The successful candidate in this position may:
- Perform geologic field work to map the bedrock or surficial geology of 7.5-minute US Geological Survey (USGS) quadrangles, using techniques and knowledge appropriate to field conditions and the geology of Maine.
- Provide quality control and enter geologic data into computer database systems.
- Design and produce geologic maps to professional standards using GIS software.
