Environmental Policy and Climate Change

Mission

Provide guidance to the AASG Executive Committee on environmental issues and legislation on a national level including the disposal of liquid, solid, hazardous and mine waste, land use and other environmental issues that relate to the science of geology.

Membership Rules

Members are appointed by the AASG President. The Chair or co-chairs will be a sitting State Geologist, appointed by the AASG President. The AASG President may appoint an Honorary Member to co-chair the Committee.

Responsibilities
  • Track environmental agency budgets, issues and legislation on a national level
  • Develop environmental policy position papers and make recommendations to the Executive Committee on concerns or opportunities for the state geological surveys
Goals
  • Identify opportunities for state geological surveys to work in the environmental arena.
  • Explore partnerships where environmental issues can support AASG efforts to create an aquifer mapping program.
  • Keep AASG informed of environmental trends and priorities and make contacts with regional EPA programs or other national environmental organizations.
