Mission
To advance the collective viewpoint of the state geological surveys in the development of national and trans-boundary policies and programs relating to the Nation's surface and ground water resources; and to interact with other organizations with similar interests.
Membership Rules
Members are appointed by the AASG President. The Chair will be a sitting State Geologist, appointed by the AASG President. The AASG President may appoint an Honorary Member to co-chair the Committee. The chair may create subcommittees to act on specific tasks.
Responsibilities
- Federal and State
- Track, comment, and provide input in to Federal legislation and regulations relating to the Nation's surface and ground water resources.
- Develop and advance science-based concepts for surface and ground water programs at the national level.
- AASG
- Assist in development, promotion, and implementation of AASG water policy and positions.
- Communicate key issues and progress to AASG membership.
- Alliances
- Act as a liaison between the Association and EPA, and USGS-WRD and other Federal agencies on water policy concerns.
- Act as liaison to the National Ground Water Association, the Water Environment Federation, and others with similar interests.
Goals
- Federal and State
- Further develop the AASG's aquifer mapping concept and explore potential partnerships in this program with the U.S. EPA, and other organizations with similar interest.
- Participate in appropriate meetings of the National Water Quality Monitoring Council, the Advisory Council on Water Information, and others. Participate in a panel charged with the drafting of Terms of Reference for a ground water council under the auspices of ACWI (Wunsch named to the panel). Once established, continue efforts to ensure that AASG is a member representative on the council. Meet with the U.S.G.S. Director annually to provide input on WRD programs.

- Report progress to AASG membership at the mid-year and annual meetings.
- Update the AASG Water Resources Statement.
- Alliances
- Implement the MOU with the National Ground Water Association.
- Participate in NGWA's annual conference.
