Job Summary

The Kentucky Geological Survey is seeking a Temporary Geologist Technician to assist with rock characterization tasks associated with geologic mapping and geoframework projects. This position is Federally funded through the USGS StateMap program for approximately 9 months and is eligible for health benefits. The successful candidate will safely assist with roadcut description and photography, three-dimensional modeling of roadcuts, and collection of gamma profiles of roadcuts and rocks cores using a handheld spectrometer. The position is full time, and would be located on the UK main campus, at the KGS EARL facility in north Lexington, with occasional field work.

 

Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in geology, earth science, or related field, and experience with GIS.

Given the COVID-19 pandemic, and the need to protect our university community including our students, staff, faculty and visitors, the University of Kentucky is requiring COVID-19 vaccination for all new hires prior to starting employment. Therefore, as of October 18, 2021, all new hires prior to their first day of employment must submit appropriate documentation showing, i) completion of the first vaccination against COVID-19, or ii) completion of the full vaccination series against COVID-19, or iii) approved exemption (medical contraindications or a sincerely held religious belief) through the formal exemption process from the COVID-19 vaccination requirement.
