This position is responsible for the technical supervision, management and maintenance of collections and archival material archiving and curation of OGS-OPIC core and cuttings collection materials. As an Archivist this individual will join a workforce within the core and cuttings department of the Oklahoma Geological Survey's Oklahoma Petroleum Information Center (OPIC) that maintains a collection of core and cuttings materials accessible to the public for industry and scientific research. The OPIC facility is a satellite geoscience repository and core storage warehouse facility located in Norman on OU's North Campus. This position will also interface with third-party laboratories and clients and will be responsible for customer service, shipping and receiving of collection materials, and maintaining a chain of custody of reclaimed materials and data dissemination. Other duties include maintaining core and cuttings supplies and materials remediation. Below is a list of job duties:
- Identifies, prepares, tags, and catalogs specimens, manuscripts, archival material and other special collections.
- Provides metadata creation and management support for grant-funded special collections projects as needed.
- Implements and monitors approved collection policies.
- Maintains archival areas.
- Manages access to collections, assuring quality professional service to students, staff, faculty, and researchers.
- Responds to inquiries regarding collections.
- Identifies collections, materials, and individual items in need of preservation treatment and performs routine preservation
- May supervise student workers and staff.
- Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.
