If you have a passion for geology and desire a challenging career in state government, TDEC has a position with the Tennessee Geological Survey (TGS) in our Knoxville Environmental Field Office. We seek candidates with experience conducting geologic investigations using appropriate research and field techniques to map and illustrate Tennessee's geology, geologic hazards, and mineral resources in East Tennessee.  This position requires geologic field knowledge and utilizing data capture techniques using GPS-enabled devices.  Knowledge of GIS applications, including Esri's ArcGIS software, is desired to facilitate geologic map production.  The preferred candidate will have graduated from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in geology, environmental science, applicable physical sciences (e.g., physics, chemistry, meteorology), ecology, environmental engineering, or other acceptable science or natural resource-related field and have one year of experience or graduate coursework applying advanced GIS techniques in the production of modern geologic maps and related derivative maps.
