We’re looking for somebody who loves using spatial data to communicate geoscience to the public and enjoys solving complex GIS problems. The GIS Specialist will be involved in a wide variety of projects spanning all the different programs at WGS. Their two primary jobs will be to (1) publish our databases as services to our online interactive Geologic Information Portal, and (2) create and maintain standalone Esri products such as story maps, dashboards, experiences, and instant apps. They’ll also act as a consultant for any GIS questions and will be able to help the science groups optimize their GIS workflows. Additionally, they’ll be supporting mobile GIS needs as well as data and GIS tasks around our natural hazards Clearinghouse. This is a fun position for somebody who likes variety, enjoys spending time tinkering and working things out, and who appreciates being part of a highly collaborative team of people with diverse specialties spanning editing, cartography, GIS, data science, and app development. If any of this sounds appealing and you have further questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to me at susan.schnur@dnr.wa.gov!
