International Relations

Membership Rules

Consists of two current State Geologists, at least one of whom is from a state bordering a foreign nation, or is active in international activities, and one Honorary member.

Responsibilities
  • Review international attendees at the GSA annual meeting to assess who to extend invitations to for the AASG breakfast meeting
  • Consider inviting international representatives, especially from the Caribbean region, to the 2007 Annual Meeting in Florida
  • Assess the AASG's possible role in the International Year of Planet Earth
Goals
  • Recommend actions by the Executive Committee regarding international relations.
  • Identify and report on issues, opportunities, and developments in non-U.S. geological surveys that are of interest or value to AASG and its members.
  • Recommend international participation in AASG activities, including invitations to the AASG annual meeting and mid-year breakfast at the Geological Society of America meeting.
  • Ensure that AASG is adequately represented at appropriate meetings of foreign and international organizations.
  • Facilitate joint activities between AASG members and national geological surveys.
  • Serve as liaison with the International Program at the USGS, international programs of other federal agencies, the IUGS, and other international bodies.
